Greg Grunberg, best known for playing Matt Parkman on the hit television show Heroes, introduced an iPhone and iPod Touch application at this year's show that customizes digital promotional offers for retailers and restaurants.
Yowza!! is a digital coupon delivery application that allows restaurants to customize the promotional offer, the locations honoring the offer and the timing of the coupon or discount. Restaurants currently using or testing the new app include Dairy Queen, ESPN Zone -- which uses the application to promote "appy hour" rather than "happy hour" -- and certain franchised McDonald's locations that want to use the app to promote the new McCafe coffees. Marmalade Cafe and Jerry's Famous Deli are others.
"The first to market, the early adopters ... they will benefit," Grunberg said. "Everyone is looking for a way to reach customers digitally ... It's the right time and the right place for this."
While consumers can track their savings with the application, businesses using the app can track redemptions, sales and where and when coupons were viewed or used. Grunberg developed the app with two friends he met on Twitter, he said, and Heroes producer J.J. Abrams came up with the name.
